Let Us Do Good

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the
household of faith (Galatians 6:10). Where do you see the focus in the verse? It is clear that we are meant to do good, but is the focus on those within the church or on those outside of it?

I must admit that I typically read this verse with a view of those within the church. Sure, we are supposed to be kind to others and love our neighbors, but do not forget about your brothers and sisters within the
church. The language that Paul uses “household of faith” signifies a family. And it is true that we often
neglect our family. We should do good to them.

But have we really been doing both? Are we helping others and ourselves? That’s a more difficult question to answer. One way to think about it is with our finances. You’ve heard the expression, “put your money where your mouth is,” so one thing we can do is look at how we spend our money. Another way is to think about how we pray. Are our prayers primarily about us and our needs, or do they include others as well?

One of the ways that we commit to do good to others is through our Serve Day event. Serve Day provides one day for us, as a church, to serve entities outside of our building because we want to bless the community in which God has planted us. That does not mean we don’t have needs within the church. Lord knows we do! But this is specifically to do good to others. Would you join us on Saturday, Aug. 24, to make this happen? You can sign up at one of our tables or through the Church Center app. Hope to see you there!
