Neal Hughes says he and Mike Northcutt showed up in Montgomery on the same Sunday — Father’s Day 1987. Hughes was the new pastor of McGehee Road Baptist Church, and Northcutt was the new pastor of Eastmont Baptist Church. And over the years the two men and their wives became friends.
It was a return home for Northcutt, a Montgomery native who came to faith and was ordained to preach at Capitol Heights Baptist Church. After graduating from Samford University in Birmingham and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, he returned home. Along the way, he served churches in both states.
