LifeGroups on Mission

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3

This is the mission of Christ and this is the mission of Reality & Truth Ministries.

Reality & Truth seeks to meet both the spiritual and physical needs of the poor and homeless in our community. As part of their ministry, they provide meals to the homeless five days a week, depending on local churches to partner with them to cook and serve those meals.

LifeGroups on Mission 1

The Blackwell/Skipper LifeGroup learned of this opportunity and has committed to partner with Reality and Truth by preparing and serving a meal every fifth Tuesday. The group meets in the Eastmont kitchen to prepare the food before they deliver it to the site on Camden Street. Someone from the LifeGroup shares a devotional and prays before the meal is served to about 50 individuals. They then spend time in conversation with those whom they serve.

Kent and Deborah Speigner have been part of the group that serves. “It is truly an eye-opening experience that makes one appreciate the lives that we lead on a daily basis. You leave with a feeling that for a moment in time you have helped others who are very poor and have lost their way in life. We highly recommend this rewarding opportunity to anyone who is interested in experiencing the different lifestyle that so many are living in our city.”

If you or your LifeGroup are interested in being a part of this ministry or in partnering with Reality & Truth, you can contact Ronald Skipper at 334-398-0111 orKaren in the church office. To learn more about Reality and Truth and its history, visit https://realityandtruth.com/our-history.
